Crowd with hands up in the air

What emotions or ideas spring to mind when you look at this image? Why does/doesn't it appeal to you? How could you use this picture to to help make an argument/point about your blog topic?

Why does this make a strong option for an abstract picture?

  1. Once again, this visual invites multiple interpretations: are they protesting in anger or cheering in joy? Is that smoke from police breaking up a riot, or the lights of a rock concert? What race or gender are they--does it matter?

So for my writing for the web topic, I could use this to discuss the anonymity of the Internet that some people hide behind to make harmful, uninformed arguments, becoming a faceless mob that loses focus and cannot effect change.

Or, I could be more positive, and discuss how the Internet allows the freedom of not being judged on your outward appearance, giving people the ability to come together and fight for a common cause, and creating a strong voice for those who have often been overlooked.

  2. When I see this picture, the first thing that come to mind is that those people are at a concert. I think of the blinding lights and the fists pumping in the air. I could also see this being a negative scene, seeing as how it could look like a protest of some sort.
I do not know how I would incorporate this picture into my writing for the web topic, however I see how it could add a sense of mystery or excitement to some.

  3. The ideas that surface from my mind while viewing this photo are, “how can I get my crowd of followers to respond like that” if I were to perform at a concert or give an inspiring speech. Viewing both sides of the coin, this photo sums up a highly energized crowd of cheers…or angry boos. I would use this picture vividly to make a point of crowd reactions to an event I covered in an article. This picture may be looked upon as an exited group of concert fans cheering, an angry mob, or the reaction to a compelling speech thus making it highly pliable (negative, positive, or both) and therefore a strong option for an abstract picture don’t you think?

    1. Absolutely, Sean. I think that's why abstract pictures are more powerful sometimes in getting readers to see a new perspective or challenge their assumptions.

  4. This image looks like an amazing concert after a rainy day. This photo brings back so many memories of helping my mom with organizing booths at concerts when I was younger! This photo is full of positive energy, the same kind of energy I want to spark in people as they read about plants. I know that might seem silly to some people, but I get just as excited learning about new plants as I did going to those concerts when I was little. Its just so full of fun energy it made me miss helping at those concerts!

    1. Great imagery in your language, Blake. Your personal story and description really draw me in as a reader. I could definitely see you using this as a way of explaining how you/your readers can get excited about plants.
