What emotions or ideas spring to mind when you look at this image? Why does/doesn't it appeal to you? How could you use this picture to to help make an argument/point about your blog topic?
Why does this make a strong option for an abstract picture?

This visual is more compelling because it has good quality, colors, and invites multiple interpretations. It's actually a dog's chew toy, but I didn't know that when I first saw it. I could see using this, as one example, to talk about how the web connects us to so many differing views and perspectives, and if done correctly, they can intertwine to create a better understanding and beautiful diverse community.
ReplyDeleteWhen I look at the picture above I actually feel a sense of stress. Seeing the way that the rubber is intertwined makes me feel confined as if I were in the center of it trying to escape.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to use this within my blog I would need to flip it around to have a more positive meaning. So I could say that this picture represents things being interconnected, so if you spend less money on food then you save more money in the long run. The two things feed off of each other!
Good work in thinking about how you could stretch the meaning to connect to your blog topic--although you could also go with the stress of trying to find the time and money to cook!
DeleteWhen viewing this image, I experience intrigue, confusion, and a strong urge to play with it. (I don’t know why). It appeals to me in a Rubik’s cube sort of way. With so many different colors and bands leading to alternate paths tightly bound together give me a compelling desire to dismantle it, research it, and reverse engineer it like what I did to my dad’s old VCR. I could imagine myself using it to explain the intricacies of the human brain, or a study of color and its infinite combinations, or just use it as a graphic example of “fun”. It doesn’t have a definite shape or color that may be easily described leaving palette of choices for the editor/writer or viewer to decipher. I short, what is it? The attempt at description alone makes this picture abstract.
ReplyDeleteGreat point about how the very act of trying to describe this image verifies its abstractness. Some interesting ideas about different possible explanations as well. Your impulse to want to take it apart and understand it, while others are comfortable with its ambiguity, might show how people instinctually embrace chaos or crave order.
